Significant Contribution |
Dr. Nishat Hussain Ahmed aims at working on a holistic approach for management, prevention and control of infectious diseases. She is dedicated for continuous improvement in patient care, and had been instrumental in NABL accreditation of Ocular Microbiology section. Herself a Gold medalist from Mumbai University for her exceptional performance in MD Microbiology, she is a passionate teacher and exults in teaching and mentoring undergraduate, postgraduate and super specialty medical students. Her research interests revolve around clinical research in infectious diseases, which is of immediate benefit to the patients. Notable are, her award winning works on novel subspecies of Staphylococcus hominis in blood stream infections of patients with underlying malignancy; and development of a molecular test to simultaneously detect five ocular viral pathogens. Also, she has first time worked on virulence factors of an emerging pathogen- Rhododtorula species, in ocular infections. She has more than forty publications in indexed medical journals and has presented papers and delivered talks in various national and international conferences.

Dr. Nishat Hussain Ahmed is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at Dr. R P Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences- New Delhi, India.
She holds MBBS and MD Microbiology degrees, and has a rich experience of working at various reputed healthcare institutions. She has worked in Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals- Mumbai as a Post Graduate student. She did her tenure as Senior Resident from All India Institute of Medical Sciences- New Delhi. Prior to joining All India Institute of Medical Sciences- New Delhi, as a permanent faculty in June 2015, she has worked in Apollo BSR Hospitals- Bhilai, Chhattisgarh; Hamdard Institute of Medical Scienecs and Research- New Delhi; and Delhi State Cancer Institutes- Delhi. She aims at working on a holistic approach for management, prevention and control of infectious diseases.
Dr. Nishat is dedicated for continuous improvement in patient care, and had been instrumental in NABH accreditation of Apollo BSR Hospitals, Bhilai; and NABL accreditation of Microbiology Department, AIIMS.
In the wake of global pandemic of COVID-19, she has worked tirelessly as Nodal Officer of COVID-19 Infection Control, and Member Secretary of COVID-19 Committee at the Centre.
Herself a Gold medalist from Mumbai University for her exceptional performance in MD Microbiology, she is a passionate academician and mentor of undergraduate, postgraduate and super specialty medical students.
