Significant Contribution Her significant contributions include development of biochemical tests for early detection of B-vitamins deficiency, deriving Recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamins B1 and B2 for Indians, elucidating the biochemical bases of skin lesions of B vitamins deficiency, and lysine Carnitine relationship in animals and men. Since her retirement Dr. Bamji has joined an NGO Dangoria Charitable Trust, in Hyderabad and is currently INSA Emeritus Scientist. She is trying to develop strategies for health, food, nutrition, environment and livelihood security in villages of Medak district, of Telangana, and has set up an award- winning food processing cum training centre. Apart from guiding students and publishing research papers she has edited a very popular multi-authored Text book of Human Nutrition, which is in its 4th edition. She has been a member of many review and policy making committees and chaired the national task force for women in science set up by DST.
Bio Dr..Bamji is a graduate of Bombay University, and alumnus of the IISc,Banalore (PhD).Her areas of specialisation are: Biochemistry, and Nutrition. She joined the National Institute of Nutrition, (NIN) Hyderabad in 1965 after completing 3 and half years of post-doctoral work at Tufts university Boston and Johns Hopkins university. Since her retirement from NIN in 1965 she is associated with the Dangoria Charitable Trust and working in villages of Medak district TS, on strategies for health, food and nutrition security. She is a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Natl academy of agricultural sciences, National academy of medical sciences, Hon fellow of National academy of sciences –India and Telangana academy of sciences. She has received 25 national and international awards including Living legend award of International Union of Nutrition Sciences ( IUNS), 2017 , Lifetime achievement award of International Union of Food Science and Technology ( IUFoST), 2018, and Life Time Achievement Award of Nutrihub, ICAR-IIMR (2021).
