Significant Contribution Dr. K. Ruckmani had initiated and established, 1. DST supported national facilities titled “National Facility for Drug Development for Academia, Pharmaceutical and Allied Industries” and; “National Facility on Bioactive Peptides from Milk” with State-of-Art instrumentation for national and international collaborations. 2.“Centre for Excellence in Nanobio Translational Research,” an autonomous body, under Anna University, Chennai. 3.EDII- Anna Business Incubation Research Foundation (a Sec 8 Company), with the Tamil Nadu state fund to channelize the laboratory scale research into sustainable/marketable products through startups and spinoff companies. 4. Unique pulmonary pharmacology – a GLP lab 5. Periodical hands-on training programs to improve skills and employability.  Patents: 3 awarded (2 Indian & 1 US); 3 filed (1 PCT & 2 Indian), 12 prestigious awards and 175 publications.  State-of-Art laboratories effectively utilized for training ~5000 school/UG/PG students, researchers & scholars.  Technology transferred to Jamjoom Pharmaceuticals Co., Saudi Arabia for immediate release acid labile drugs to be stable at alkaline environment. (US Patent No:US8, 999,384 B2; 2015).  Testing and consultancy services to laboratories, industries and other institutes.  Development of herbal formulation comprising Phaseolus mungo and Cyphomandra betaceae to strengthen existing knowledge on Indian herbal medicines- A contribution to AYUSH (Indian Patent No: 292860).  Mobilized grants of ~Rs. 1421.72 Lakhs from DST, DBT, FIST, TEQUIP and ICMR and has established multifunctional facilities under single roof.  Advanced training for research fellows form developing countries  Priority for empowerment of women researchers, particularly with break of study  Special projects mobilized for development of fortified food products and smart pesticides
Bio Dr. K. Ruckmani is a dedicated scientist, professor, patriot and an exceptional philantrophist. Hailing from a challenging background, she has always recognized the importance of women to rise up against the odds. Fervour towards pharmaceutical technology right from graduation has propelled Dr K. Ruckmani through becoming the first women from Tamilnadu to achieve Doctorate in Pharmacy. With combined experience of 27 years in teaching and scientific research till date,has widely explored drug delivery systems including, novel drug delivery systems, herbal formulations, stabilization of pharmaceutical products and food fortification as evident from her excellent publications and patents. She believes in deliverable, translational research and product development that directly or indirectly benefits the quality of life, towards which, she has accomplished several notable and highly funded research projects. She has mentored 22 PhDs, 08 post-docs and guided 85 PG projects.
